Boys Bathroom Renovation Part 3
The boys bathroom renovation is moving along! Check out part one here and part two here. This past weekend we gutted the current ugly 80’s bathroom. Good-bye ugly linoleum, good-bye ugly shell sink and good riddance to the horrid bathtub and disgusting caulking around it! Lets reminisce about how it looked shall we….
Don’t judge my cleaning skills. That ugly black mold does not come off the caulking between the tiles no matter what you do. If you do get it off, it grows right back! Probably because there was a nice little black mold patch growing around the toilet under the linoleum. Eeeeeeew!!!!
Don’t worry I used proper precautions to clean up this mess. First I googled what to do of course! Wear a mask, dampen it so that the spores don’t fly up into the air and use bleach. You can also use products specifically for cleaning mold such as tilex, but I figured bleach would do.
This is the teenage boy bathroom so of course the teenagers were enlisted to help demolish the bathroom. I think they thought it was kind of fun. It was an educational experience and they learned a little about construction/demolition at the same time!
How many people does it take to remove a toilet? Looks like it takes about three of us! And me the photographer!
Here are a few more pictures of our process. It really didn’t take that long. Saturday the guys removed the vanity, toilet, trim and flooring. Sunday they tackled the bathtub and tiles. The hardest part was figuring out how to detach the tub drain. So we asked Google and of course it turned out to be much easier than first thought. Really, google knows everything!
So now we wait for the actual people who know what they are doing to put everything back together again. We figured that we could save a few dollars by doing the demolition ourselves. Because really, how much damage can you do wrecking stuff? Just make sure the water is turned off!
My son Ian and I made a couple of trips to our local dump to get rid of all of the debris. Kind of fun, got to drive my husband Kevin’s new big red truck for the first time!
Yuck!
Handsome Son
Action shot, goodbye shell sink!
So this is what is left of the bathroom. The next couple of weeks will be organizing the trades people to come in and install all of the new and beautiful stuff!
Can’t wait for the boys bathroom renovation to be finished. Then we can start thinking about the master bathroom renovation/oasis that I am going to create!
Stay tuned for the Boys Bathroom Renovation – The Reveal!
Have a great day!
