Hi guys, as promised I am back to tell you all about my lovely new dishwasher. One of the great things about moving to this house is that we decided we would buy all new kitchen appliances! Yippee! I have always longed for the LG brand in appliances and when we moved to the new house I discovered that I was the new owner of a practically brand new LG laundry pair!
The kitchen appliances on the other hand were a little dated and to be honest a little gross. Well the dishwasher was a little gross. Here it is now living in the garage, thank goodness!
When we pulled the old dishwasher out we discovered that the plumbing and the electrical went straight down to the basement. The electrical was ok but the plumbing should have gone to the kitchen sink and through a trap. When we looked under the kitchen sink we did not see a trap! I’m thinking, why is there no trap under the kitchen sink and are there sewer gases coming up into the house?
During the plumber’s first attempt to install the dishwasher he realized that to fix this disaster he needed access to the ceiling in the basement. My brain does this $$$$$. Yikes! So….we took a portion of the basement ceiling down. Or should I say my son Ian and my Dad took the ceiling down.
Once the ceiling was down our great plumber came back to check out the plumbing in the ceiling. He discovered that we did indeed have a trap under the kitchen sink it was just hiding in the ceiling. With no access hatch.
He also discovered that most of the drain pipes were angled upwards….we all know that water flows downhill. As a result this is what happens. Pipes almost clogged with grease. Eeeeeew.
So after my wonderful plumber re-plumbed all of the drainage pipe and installed the water line to the kitchen sink he could finally install my dishwasher. Yay! Happy Dance! Check out this beauty.
On the bright side the plumber didn’t cost as much as I thought he would. And our basement ceiling is down so there is super easy access for when the gas fitter comes to install my new gas range.
