Spring Planter
Just a quick post today to tell you about my spring planter on my front step. I wasn’t going to blog about it but my mom said it was so nice and that I should share it with everyone. Since it was time to switch the winter wreath to the spring wreath, it was also time to fix up the winter planter sitting on my front step. The winter planter was really pretty and filled with evergreen boughs that I had trimmed off of my blue spruce in the back yard. Ok, to be honest the tree is in my neighbor’s yard but hangs over into my yard and sometimes it needs a little trim. Don’t worry, the neighbor doesn’t mind!
As most of my projects go, I use dollar store fake plants. I picked up the ‘ingredients’ for my planter at the same time that I picked up the stuff for the wreath. I used a lot of the same stuff that was already in the winter planter like the birch branches, pussy willows, grass and small white flowers. I picked up some additional apple blossom branches, I think……..not sure what they are. The dollar store doesn’t really label them. Anyway they looked springy to me. Also I picked up some more greenery since I had to replace the ever green boughs that were dropping their needles fast!
You can’t quite see into the planter but all I have in there are some medium-sized rocks. I basically stood the birch branches up and put the rocks in around them. And magically they stand up. The rocks were also great to give the pot some weight so it wouldn’t blow over. Next I just kept adding the bits and pieces I bought and stuck them in and around the rocks and birch branches. I did use one block of dry floral foam (from the dollar store) in the front of the branches to stand up the little white flowers. Their stems are quite short so they would disappear into the pot if I didn’t give them a boost. And that’s it. I only made one planter because I didn’t want the porch to look too crowded. I brought out my wicker chairs so there wasn’t much room for two planters.
That’s it for the front porch for a while now. When the weather gets warm enough the planter will be filled with real flowers for the summer. Can’t wait for summer to get here!
Thanks for stopping by!
